What is Psalmory?
Psalmory is a free Bible app and website. You can read the complete Bible in plain modern English, listen to human narration with each verse highlighted as it is read, play a Bible quiz, memorize verses, and follow short guided reading journeys.
Is Psalmory really free?
Yes. Psalmory is free with no account and no sign-up. It is supported by ads that appear at natural stopping points, such as after a quiz round, never in the middle of a verse. In the Memorize game you can optionally watch a short ad to earn back a heart.
Which Bible translation does Psalmory use?
The Berean Standard Bible (BSB), a modern English translation that is dedicated to the public domain. All 66 books are included.
Is the audio a real person?
Yes. The narration is recorded by human readers (Bob Souer, Barry Hays and David, where available for a chapter), not a synthetic voice. Each verse lights up as it is read. You can change the speed from 0.75x to 1.5x and use a sleep timer. Audio streams over your internet connection.
Do I need an account?
No. Psalmory has no accounts. Your saved verses, quiz scores, streaks, XP and settings are stored on your own device.
Where is my data stored?
Only on your device (browser storage on the website, app storage on Android). It is not sent to us. Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app removes it.
How do I find a verse?
Use search to look up a word or phrase (for example "do not be afraid") or jump straight to a reference such as "John 3:16" or "Psalm 23". Every verse also has its own page you can open and share.
How do streaks, XP and badges work?
Reading, listening, playing the quiz and memorizing verses earn XP and level you up. Doing one small thing each day keeps your streak going, and you collect badges along the way. It is all kept on your device.
How does the Bible quiz work?
There are 418 questions across five modes: Classic (60 seconds), Speed Round, Marathon, Perfect Faith (one wrong answer ends the run) and a Daily Challenge that everyone plays on the same day.
What are journeys?
Journeys are guided reading paths with one short chapter a day, each with a written reflection and one small thing to try. There are 13 paths, including the Gospel of Mark in 16 days and paths for anxiety, loss, loneliness, sleep, a fresh start, purpose and recovery.
Are there reminders or notifications?
The Android app has optional reminders: a daily reading reminder at a time you choose, and a heads-up when a streak could lapse. They are scheduled on your device in your own time zone, at most one a day, and you can turn them off any time. The website does not send notifications.
Is there an Android app?
The Psalmory Android app is in testing on Google Play and is coming soon. The website works in any modern browser and can be added to your home screen.
Why are there ads?
The revenue made from the ads goes directly to supporting Tipity Hope Ministries, helping alcoholics and addicts get the help they need to get back to their lives and family, and to being productive members of society again. The more you read or play, the more people you can potentially help.
Can I share a verse?
Yes. Every verse can be shared as designed artwork (post, story or square) or as a link that shows the verse as a preview.
